And no, I’m not kidding.  Dude’s gotta be ready when the employment agency calls with that job!

While I relish in the irony of this photo, there are so many newly unemployed and even new homeless that the context of our current economy cannot be ignored.

  • We have no clue whether or not this person is homeless. He could be newly laid off, or a member of the working poor (who, believe it or not, actually need the convenience of a cell phone, just like, GASP, about everyone else!), or even a member of the shelter staff (who, at least in most shelters I’ve volunteered at, are allowed to get in line, too). To mock this picture is completely unnecessary.

  • You’re right. We do not know. All we know is what we can see in the photo. A man in line for free food snapping a photo with a wireless phone equipped with a camera. It would be so far fetched to assume that there is a good chance that he is either homeless or indigent.

This photo is as open to your interpretations as it is to mine. To dismiss my suggestion that there is the whiff of impropriety here is typical of the liberal effort to whitewash anything that appears to discredit their losing efforts at “helping the poor.”

So, I’m a mean spirited mocker. I can take it.

What? How in any way does my thinking that your mockery is unnecessary in anyway try to whitewash your, um, extremely effective discrediting of losing efforts to help the poor?

Furthermore, how is there any suggestion of impropriety? Homeless people can’t have cellphones? Pay as you go cellphones are incredibly cheap, and so are phones with cameras. It’s not as those he’s lugging around an iPhone or one of those Android-equipped iPhone wannabes. You’re right though, he absolutely does have to be ready to answer the phone when the employment agency calls. That’s probably why he has a cellphone.

And even more furthermore, how in any way does this photo show losing efforts to help the poor?

  • i love to see our tax dollars at work. food line. mechell with her $600 dollar shoes shoveling free food and the poor we pay to have free homes, free cellphones. just in case he might like to work. my tax dollars at work.
