File this with the myriad other reasons John McCain should never have been the standard bearer for the Republican Party.
“We support President Obama’s decision to close the prison at Guantanamo, reaffirm America’s adherence to the Geneva Conventions, and begin a process that will, we hope, lead to the resolution of all cases of Guantanamo detainees,” McCain and Graham said in a statement…
“Present at Guantanamo are a number of detainees who have been cleared for release but have found no foreign country willing to accept them,” the senators said. “Other detainees have been deemed too dangerous for release, but the sensitive nature of the evidence makes prosecution difficult. The military’s proper role in processing detainees held on the battlefield at Bagram, Afghanistan, and other military prisons around the world must be defended, but that is left unresolved. Also unresolved is the type of judicial process that would replace the military commissions. We believe the military commissions should have been allowed to continue their work.”
Good men can disagree over the proper way to deal with Guantánamo, but honest Republicans should not be using a national security issue to ingratiate themselves to the new Democrat president. Especially after one of them was just handily beaten by said President. That’s just embarrassing.
John McCain attempted to maintain his dignity and honor during the campaign by not confronting Obama with the evidence of his association with Jeremiah Wright. In hindsight, he might as well have hammered Obama on Wright because his behavior since the election has nearly stripped him of his beloved dignity and honor.
You’d think the architect of his own presidential campaign failure (McCain-Feingold, anyone?) would know better than to drink at the well of bipartisanship again. No comment on Giggling Lindsay Grahamnesty. I’ve come to expect no better from him.
A painful post-election moment which was a sign of things to come -
Is it Beavis or Butthead that Graham is channeling in this video clip?

Obama is smart on so many levels for ordering the closure of Guantanamo. It has been a long time coming

Well if you think about it, McCain probably doesn’t like the idea of secretive military prisons that much. Seeing as he was held and tortured in one for several years.
