Obama: Jones Soda Sales Tool

A new chapter in the Cola Wars.  Mission objective: make as much money as possible off the celebrity status of President-elect Barack Obama.

Yesterday, I noted the recent Pepsi campaign using semi-celebrities to tout Obama as “the man who’s about to refresh our nation.”  Apparently, only fitting beverage to accompany to presidential nation-refreshing is a can of Pepsi.

Not so fast, Pepsico.  Jones Cola has released a new orange soda to compete for the Obama-soda slot.  Meet Orange “You Glad For Change” Cola.

jonesobamasodaPrice of Orange “You Glad For Change” Cola? $15 for a six-pack or $24 for a cost-saving twelve-pack.  Unexpected high cost.  Something else this soda and Obama have in common.

This move by Jones likely has Pepsico CEO Indra “Middle Finger” Nooyi in the mood to give a single finger salute of her own.

All of this nonsense begs one simple question.  Got milk?

  • Back when Pepsi unveiled their new “original” logo, I turned to my husband and said, “What? We have Obama Soda now?” I was half horrified and half amused at the obvious attempt at jumping on board a movement for the sake of sales. And now Jones soda? I have lost respect. I know we can add our own pictures. Maybe we should add a picture of all of ourselves going about our own business and calling the flavor “I don’t give a crap.” It could have a bubbly, lemony flavor to help wash all the bullsh*t down.

  • That’s hilarious. If you come up with something good, be sure to let me know and I will post it here.
    Bottoms up!

  • I am not a Pepsi fan.

  • I’m not anymore. They can keep their O’Pepsi. Color me old-fashioned, but tap water and milk suit me just fine.

  • The person who wrote this did not do their homework. On the other side of the Jones 2008 Election soda package is John McCain, Pure McCain Cola. In the package are 4 bottles, 2 with Obama, 2 with McCain. That’s fair to me. It’s not just Obama cola, it’s collectible 2008 Election Soda.
