A recent scene from beautiful downtown San Francisco -
Does it spook anyone else to see the streets of American cities looking like a riots in Beruit or Jerusalem? I am reminded of the Muslim riots in France, another event that seemed to be occurring in the wrong geographic location.
I’m no advocate of racial and national homogeneity, but I do think we are losing our identity as a nation as we permit and even encourage non-assimilation. These people are clearly Palestinians first and Americans at some other level, if at all.
…at an earlier San Francisco Gaza protest on December 30, the Palestinian protesters (according to this post at the “At the Back of the Hill” blog) chanted the following slogans in Arabic:
“Itbach al Yahud” (slaughter the Jews)
“Falastin balad’na w’al Yahud qalab’na” (Palestine is our land and the Jews are our dogs)
“ba ruh, ba dam, nafdeek ya Falastin” (with our soul, with our blood, we will cleanse you oh Palestine),
“al mawt al Yahud” (death to the Jews),
“Khaybar Khaybar ya Yahud, jaish-Muhammad saya’ud” (Khaybar Khaybar oh Jews, the army of Muhammad will return).
Hate speech? Incitement to violence? Where do we draw the line?
The most encouraging thing I have read about this came from a commenter at the original site:
While these people are obviously low life … scum, I seriously doubt most of them are Palestinian, or even Arab or even Muslim. They are simply the lefty trash that floats around San Francisco bay. I am no more scared or concerned about them than about Barney the Purple Dinosaur.

Not likely.
A commenter at the original site said that these San Franciscans demonstrating in support of Palestine is like chickens demonstrating in favor of Colonel Sanders. Apt.
These folks really could use a good reality check though, I agree.

This is crazy!! We ALL need to learn to GET ALONG! This is AMERICA! Maybe we should make it illegal to have open protests in the streets?
I think ultimately we need to understand and figure out the cause of all the violence, is it simply religious differences? Or you killed my brother / father / mother / sister? Or what is the problem?
Violence is NEVER the answer…I hope we learn that before more blood shed has to occur..

The cause really depends on who you ask.
Because we are a free society, we will (or should) always allow street protests. What is not so clear is what the limit on free expression should be, or if there should be a limit.
Libs are all in favor of “hate crime” legislation. I think the “hate crime” bills are wrong because they assign special status to crimes against minorities, as though crimes against non-minorities are somehow not as bad. Call it another form of affirmative action. Bad policy. Yet, since the libs support “hate crime” laws, why aren’t they condemning this garbage? I guess Jews don’t fall into the protected, sacred category of hate crime victims. That’s reserved for minorities like blacks and homosexuals, right?

At the next “pro Palestine” demonstration there should be an organized counterdemonstration by those of us who are against Hamas. We are legion.
