Richardson’s Pay To Play Debt Comes Due

Bill Richardson has dropped out as President-elect Obama’s Commerce Secretary.  No big surprise given what been going on his life lately.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, tapped in December by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as secretary of Commerce, has withdrawn his name for the position, citing a pending investigation into a company that has done business with his state.

“Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact,” he said Sunday in a report by NBC News. “But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process.”

What’s more surprising is that Obama’s team hasn’t done a better job of vetting his cabinet picks.  Richardson is currently embroiled in a pay to play scandal.  Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is neck deep in the Illinois political cesspool and has lately been caught “talking out of school” with Rod Blagojevich’s office.  Education Secretary nominee Arne Duncan has presided over Chicago’s failing schools.  Attorney General nominee Eric Holder brokered a dirty, Clinton era pardon deal from billionaire Marc Rich.

Hope and change.
