CNN via Michelle Malkin:
Nine-term Democratic Rep. William Jefferson, who has been battling scandals and a federal indictment for the past three years, lost his bid for re-election on Saturday.
Louisiana Democratic Rep. William Jefferson has been embroiled in a bribery scandal.
Republican challenger Anh “Joseph” Cao, an attorney and community organizer, defeated Jefferson in the 2nd Congressional district race. He will become the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Cao had almost 50 percent of the vote to Jefferson’s 47 percent.
Perhaps you remember William Jefferson? He is the Louisiana Congressman who in 2005 was found to have been hiding $90,000 in cash in his freezer and bribing Nigerian officials. Louisiana voters re-elected him to Congress in 2006 after the wrongdoing was made public and only 6 months before his indictment. This year, he he made a strong showing and lost by only 3 percentage points.

From HotAir:
“People are innocent until proven guilty,” said Faye Leggins, 54, an educator and Democrat … She voted for Jefferson on Saturday. “He has enough seniority, so he can do a lot to redevelop this city.”
People are innocent until proven guilty? That’s the standard for imprisoning someone, not for electing them to Congress.
Does character mean anything at all anymore?
